Common reasons for knee pain
- Wear-and-tear changes in the joint, common as we get older
- Pain at the front of the knee, often worse on stairs or after sitting
- Tendon irritation from running, jumping or a sudden increase in activity
- A twist or fall that injured a ligament or the cartilage
- Swelling or stiffness that comes and goes
How we help at AZA
- Listen and examine. We ask how the pain started, what makes it worse, and how it affects your day. Then we examine the knee properly.
- Explain. You leave understanding the likely cause and your options, in plain words.
- Treat, step by step. Depending on your assessment, this may include medication, physiotherapy next door at AZA Physiotherapy, K-Laser therapy, activity advice, and, only when clinically appropriate, procedures such as an ultrasound-guided knee injection. Injections are not our first step.
- Follow up. We review your progress and adjust the plan, because knees usually need time.
When to see a doctor urgently
Some knee problems need a doctor's assessment without delay: a knee that looks deformed after an injury, being unable to put weight on it, or a hot, red, swollen joint with fever. Please WhatsApp or come in straight away so a doctor can examine you. If it is severe or after clinic hours, go to the nearest emergency department.
Common questions
Is knee pain just part of getting older?
Knee changes are common with age, but pain is not something you simply have to accept. Many people feel and move better with the right plan and exercises.
Do I need an X-ray or scan?
Not always. We decide after examining you. When imaging will change the plan, we'll explain why and arrange it.
Should I rest or keep moving?
Short rest can help after a flare, but most knees do better with gentle, guided movement. Your physiotherapist will show you what's safe.
