Injured while training or playing?

Sports injuries such as sprains, strains and overuse pain are common, and most recover well with the right care. The key is a proper check early on, a clear recovery plan, and a gradual return to training so the same injury doesn't come back. At AZA, our doctor and the physiotherapists next door work together on that plan with you.

Common sports injuries we see

  • Ankle sprains and rolled ankles
  • Knee injuries from twisting, landing or contact
  • Shoulder pain from throwing, spiking or overhead sports
  • Muscle strains in the thigh, calf or groin
  • Overuse pain from running, volleyball, netball, badminton and football

How we help at AZA

  1. Assess the injury. We examine the injured area and ask how it happened, what sport you play and what your next competition is.
  2. Plan the recovery. We explain what's likely injured and set a realistic timeline, with imaging only when it will change the plan.
  3. Rehabilitate. Physiotherapy at AZA Physiotherapy rebuilds strength, movement and confidence. Taping can support the joint during recovery, and K-Laser therapy may be added where suitable.
  4. Return safely. We guide a step-by-step return to training and play, and review progress along the way.

For parents and coaches

Young athletes are still growing, so some injuries behave differently than in adults. Pain that keeps coming back, a limp, or pain that stops a child training deserves a proper assessment rather than just rest. We're happy to explain the plan to parents and coaches together.

When to see a doctor urgently

Some sports injuries need a doctor's assessment without delay: a head knock followed by confusion, vomiting or passing out, a limb that looks deformed, or being unable to bear any weight. Please WhatsApp or come in straight away so a doctor can examine you. If it is severe or after clinic hours, go to the nearest emergency department.

Common questions

When can I go back to training?

It depends on the injury and how your recovery goes. We set milestones with you rather than a fixed date, so you return when your body is ready.

Should I ice or heat it?

For a fresh injury, rest, ice and gentle compression can ease pain and swelling in the first day or two. Then get it assessed if it isn't clearly improving.

Do you see school athletes?

Yes. We see young athletes with a parent or guardian, and we can coordinate with their coach.
